About Region 5

Welcome to Region 5.  Our region covers Gloucestershire, Bristol and Somerset.  The M5 from junction 5 to 25 (Tewkesbury to Taunton) is the spine to our area and there are 51 quilt groups on our Region 5 list – 10 in the Bristol area and 21 in Somerset and 20 in Gloucestershire. For a full list of groups click here

Being a large area geographically we try to have our meetings in a variety of places, though many are within easy reach of the M5.  We aim to rotate the regional days from Gloucestershire, to Bristol area to Somerset.  Each year we plan to have 2 regional days where there are 2 speakers or where members share a particular skill or do a mini-workshop although, for 2019, we are holding an alternative March event to celebrate International Quilt Day with a stash sale and charity sewing afternoon.   Regional days in 2019 are on 16 March in Whitminster Village Hall and on 6 October in Failand Village Hall.  Our events usually have traders and there is always the popular show and tell session.  The regional days have a raffle. We also have a book stall with magazines and quilt sales.  If lunch is not provided then bring your own and we provide tasty cakes with a cup of tea before you leave for home.

We also hold other events such as our 5 for 5 show in Clevedon in July 2018 where 5 talented quilters from Region 5 exhibited 5 of their quilts in the home of our secretary in Clevedon and, for the second time this year we will be sharing a stand with Region 4 at the West Country Quilt and Textile Show in August.

To support the Quilt Show taking place at The American Museum, Bath, this year we will be supporting a number of sewing bees at the venue.  We are also holding a number of coffee mornings around the region so check out a quilt shop near you to see if we will be there.  In September we will be running a contemporary quilt workshop so there is lots for our members and friends to get involved with.

In Region 5 we do our best to support the Young Quilters group and we have experiemented with having YQ events associated with our regional days.  Unfortunately we do not have a Young Quilters Rep at the moment and would love to hear from you if you would like to be involved.  For more details contact or go to the Region 5 page on the YQ website

Check out the events pages to find out what is happening in the region - shows, talks, workshops etc.  The News pages have lots of items about quilting in our region.  If you have an event or a news item you want added to the website please send to the website editor
