New group in Glastonbury, Somerset

Members of Avalon Quilters helping at the American Museum in Bath

Avalon Quilters is a newly formed group which meets in St Mary's Church Hall, Glastonbury on the first Saturday of the month.  It has emerged out of a beginners  U3A patchwork and quilting group (there are now 3).  Avalon Quilters is not part of U3A as it is designed to appeal to younger women, many of whom work.  They have been supported by their local quilt shop Sew Over the Moon

Sue Oxley, who is the contact person, says "The November meeting is on the 14th.  We are going to have an all day class on Omiyage, Japanese quilted bags and other gifts.   At this meeting there will be a challenge, to be judged at the Christmas meeting on December 5th.  On that day we are also having a social afternoon with buffet lunch, a Show and Tell, a Secret Santa, and generally just having a good time.  Much of our group's reason for being, besides the love of quilts and quilting, is to have a lovely time socially and to learn from each other.  We are very friendly and helpful to each other, which is great"

They are hoping to have a show in 2016 - so keep your eyes peeled on the events page!

Check out the local groups page in the Somerset section for contact details for Sue.
