There seemed to be fewer quilts in the traditional quilt section of the Festival of Quilts 2017. Of the 74 entries 3 were from Region 5
Jenny Lester's quilt was "Tower Block". She hails from Bristol and her inspiration was a drawing in a magazine of a white cube building. The variegated blue fabric gave depth to the windows and the image takes up the whole of the quilt, sides and bottom.
Beverley Parker, also from Bristol, entered "Simon's Stars". It was adapted from the Houston stars Quilt from P & Q magazine in 2005, with the addition of a Mariner's Compass block at the request of Simon
Julia Nelmes from Weston Super Mare, entered one of her English pieced hexagon quilts called "Sunshine's Out". Again hand made and quilted with French knots in the centre of each hexagon. Fabric donated by her friends which she stores in colour co-ordinated bags. She fears she will become kjnown as the bag lady!
